🚨Risk and Reward🚨

“Building a career isn’t about avoiding risk. It’s about managing risk.” — Adam Grant

I am reminded of key moments in my career where I chose to embrace calculated risks📈

✨ Starting as an Honors Intern at the FBI in 1991

✨ Taking risks-

🎲 Taking a cut in grade to stay in the organization I quickly grew to love.

🎲 Jumping from one job series to another and back again (struggling to tune out the chorus of naysayers loudly advising against it.)

🎲 Answering the call of the mission although it hurt deeply at the time: changing the threats or accounts I had grown to love because I was needed elsewhere.

🎲 Making lateral moves as a senior leader.

🎲 Making lateral moves as an executive.

🎲 Moving my family (with their support and blessing) to take an opportunity.

Each leap of faith pushed me out of my comfort zone, but the rewards were transformational for me as a human and leader 🌟. At every step 👣 I was supported by friends, mentors and leaders who encouraged me to tune out the noise and leap and sure, celebrated when the risk paid off but also were there to pick me up off the ground when I fell. Let me tell you - when I fell, I fell HARD.

33 years, 7️⃣ Field Offices, multiple work roles- hashtag#noregrets

Adam Grant likens this process to managing a stock portfolio:

💼 “Higher returns involve more risk. If all your bets are safe, it may be time to rebalance.”

💡 Ask yourself today: Are you playing it too safe? Where could taking a smart risk open the door to growth?

🌟 In the long run, the biggest regrets are often the risks we didn’t take.

Let’s rebalance together. 🔄
